Vid.me Full Review - [Iframe not supported] Verified Members Get Paid For Your Video Content
Vid.me
Introduction
As you can see the iframe doesnt seem to work for vid.me on steemit. Guess my party s crashed. Maybe someone will fix this one day. <will update with solution in reply>
So If you are not on Vid,me yet you should take a look. Many of you here on Steemit are content creators and some shows that are unpopular deserve a platform where their voice can be heard. Many individuals that are looking for a home after the demonetization of YouTube are finding their way to Vid.me
First Look
Features
Vid.me offers a viable amazing solution to individuals looking to monetize their content with more opportunities in the future to monetize your content. So for users of Steemit or Patreon This is a great double whammy. While some of us may like the 007 James Bond Bitchute version of video hosting, for the average user Vid.me is perfect to gain a small gathering of fans and get paid in the process. Like any social media, users can upvote videos that thye like to bump them in the feed. This will result in more viewers and hopefully more subscribers, which will result in income.
Human run community where senior members get to choose which of the large channels get featured on the front page. While videos can still be reported the terms are a little more forgiving and decisions are human managed. No random robot mass flagging everyone's account for copyrite. Every video is auto play when visited and the program carries great features for sharing your videos across social media in a user friendly interface.
Considering themselves to be a hybrid of YouTube and Reddit, they have deeply integrated their design with Reddit. So promotion of much of the content is done on Reddit, but this will also start to change.
Background
Started by Alex Benzer and Warren Shaeffer, Vid.me had their launch 2014, raising almost 6mil in Series A funding for the project by December 2016 from a hefty round of investors. By 2015 Vid.me was already getting 30mil unique viewers and 150mil page views per month. At current their largest 100 channels have over 60mil subscribers.
Verified members and limitations
Currently in order to have subscribers and earn from tips, you will need to verify your account. Once you complete that you can start building your followers and getting paid. So far I haven't noticed any censorship, but there are community guidelines and they have a future plan which they may have to tackle this issue when it arrives. They will have some form of monopolization similar to YouTube ads with 5 second or 10 second time spots. If and when they get there, they may face similar issues where vendors may want to restrict their ads from certain videos. I imaging they have a future plan for this already and we will have to see at the roll out. There are also currently limitations on storage space and video length, but verified members have those limits removed.
Conclusion
This is a great solution for those looking to double dip on their content value. While posting a video and embedding in Steemit will help to earn your income, uploading to Vid.me ads the frosting on the cake. There are future plans in the work for a monetized advertising platform and a search algorithms based on communities for a more enriching user experience. If you are a video content business or personal platform, this is the place to park your videos for now. For the more controversial platforms we should all keep an eye out for Bitchute which would offer complete freedom and expression of speech.
according to Steemit for security reasons not all iframes are supported. YouTube, Vimeo, and SoundCloud are the only supported servers. Here is a link: https://www.steem.center/index.php?title=Tips_for_formatting_your_post#Video_.26_Media
The only solution is to request a support ticket or get the two companies to agree on some security terms. I will update in the future.
