I Bought a Marvel Vs. Capcom Arcade Machine // Infinite MvC Combos// $350 Arcade Unit!

I've played fighting games for about as long as I can remember. Street Fighter first, then on to the various Neo Geo fighters like Samurai Showdown and World Heroes, Tekken, the various crossover Marvel games, and Soul Calibur and the Smash Bros. line.

I've been decent at a few of them, but never at the top level. Still, I've always enjoyed what they have to offer for heads-up play, and the intricacy of the combo systems has always fascinated me.

After shopping around Craigslist for many years, I finally found an arcade version of Marvel vs. Capcom (the original) that I could afford; it was $350.00, and the seller delivered. He was the owner of a comic shop in town, and he was changing locations and no longer had room for the arcade machine.

There are some flaws to the unit--the bezel frame is for an earlier Street Fighter game and is in poor condition. The coin mechanisms no longer work, and the joysticks are not sensitive enough, sometimes sticking when you try to engage a super jump. Still, at $350 dollars, it was a steal, since it could easily bring $500-600 as-is.

I blame the sticky jumps, but I haven't been able to master any infinite combos with my unit. Still, there are many that exist, as you can see in the gifs.

It might be a bit clunky and not in perfect working order, but I'm still pretty stoked to have the machine. I had wanted one for about 10 years, trying multiple times to acquire them only to be priced out of the market. While I spend the little time I devote to fighting games these days on Tekken 7 on my PS4, I hope that one day my sons will enjoy playing the arcade version of this gem.

But even if this dream is never fulfilled, and my children are pulled into virtual worlds much more advanced than those I played in, I am glad I own it, and can always sell it if I am in a financial pinch.
