Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild Armor Guide

In Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, there is lots of armor. At this point, you might be wondering how to catalogue it all, and if you even have it all. Here is a complete list of all the armor in the game and what you can do with it. This will not count dlc or amiibo sets.
Key: Hashtags and Stars mean it’s only one piece of armor and doesn’t have a set to go with it.

Old Set

Old pants and old shirt. Perhaps the weakest set in the game, these are the first armor you receive in the game. Each piece is 1 defense and not upgradable. Recommended level: 1

Hylian Set

The first decent set in the game, the Hylian set is three pieces. Hylian Tunic, Hylian trousers, and Hylian Hood. Each piece starts out at three defense and can be upgraded to 20, with the end product being 60.
Recommended level: 3

Shekiah Set

The Shekiah Set is bought in Kakariko Village. It’s origin is that of a Shekiah Warrior. The set increases your stealth, making your footsteps quieter, though, as a trade-off, it has very low defense. It starts with 2, and ends with with 16. The set bonus allows you to move faster at night.
Recommended Level: 3

Soldier Armor

The Soldier’s armor is one of the best armors in the game. It is bought at Hateno. Starts at 4, then finishes at 28. However, no set bonus.
Recommended: Level 4

Zora Armor

While the chest-plate of this armor is required, it does not make the rest of the set useless. Like the Hylian Set, each piece of armor has the final states of 20, and 3 when you first acquire it. However, the set bonus allows you to swim incredibly fast.
Recommended: Level 5

Salavger Armor

An armor you get through the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Side quest. It has the base defense of 5 but is not upgradeable. The armor is basically a Zora Armor (as it has swimming plus) without the defense.
Recommended level: 1

Rubber Armor

The Rubber Armor is mostly found in shrines, however, one can be unlocked from a side quest. The Rubber Armor has the base state of 3 and finishes at 20. It is electric resistant. It can be bought from a merchant in Tarry Town but is incredibly expensive. Its set bonus is that you cannot be shocked, meaning electric enemies can no longer make you drop your Hylian Shield off a cliff.
Recommended level: 3

Climbing Set

This armor set is the same defense states as the Rubber Armor. However, it allows you to climb up walls much faster, and its set bonus allows you to save stamina.
Recommended level: 4

Barbarian Outfit

This armor gives you an attack boost, containing the states of 20 when fully upgraded, and 3 when just obtained.
Recommended level: 4

Radiant Tights

Allows you to glow in the dark. 3/20. Set bonus allows you to blend in with skeleton monsters.
Recommended Level: 2

Masks ## ***

Masks let you blend in. If you find a group of soley Bokoblins, Lizalfos, or Moblins, you should be able to pass by with nothing more than a wave from a monster. However, if there is more than one type of the monster in the camp, you can’t fool them. Bought from Kilton.
Recommended Level: 3

Anti-Elements Headwear ## ***

This is a group of lots of headwear you obtain in Gerudo Town. It offers very minimal defense, however, and its entire point is rendered useless by the fact you simply equip the Flamebreaker helmet or Snowquill Headdress to attain the same effect, and those are much easier to get.
Recommended level: 2

Sand and Snow boots ## ***

Boots that allow you to walk in sand and snow without slowing down. 2/20. Great for traveling. Got from Bozai right outside Gerudo Town.
Recommended Level: 4

Thunder Helm ## ***

The prized Gerudo treasure, given to you by the Gerudo Chief. With this nifty thing, you can have lighting fall on your head and be fine!

Gerudo Set

Required to get into Gerudo Town (unfortunately.) 1 defense and can not be upgraded. Set bonus protects against the heat.
Recommended Level: 1

Flamebreaker Armor:

A set of armor needed to survive in Death Mountain. 3/20 states.
Recommended level: 3

Desert Voe outfit

Armor sold at Gerudo Town and Tarrey Town. It allows you to track the deserts without sacrificing your manliness. 3/20.
Recommended level: 3

Warm Dublet ## ***

A dublet given to you by the Old Man. If you happened to miss this on the Great Plateau, there’s little chance in getting it again, as it offers 1 defense, and can not be upgraded. It offers cold resistance, but so little it is hardly useful. It is only 70 rupees though…
Recommended level: 1

Snowquill Coat

With this armor set you can survive in the cold of Mount Lanayru, Hebra Mountains, and the Gerudo Highlands. It has 3/20 stats, pretty usual, though admittedly it is far better than the Warm Dublet.
Recommended level: 3

Dark Link Set

Dark Link set might look great, but it’s states aren’t that great. It has a base defense of 3, and cannot be upgraded. However, there is a way to get around 43 defense over all. Champion’s Tunic ## ***

Amazing tunic given to you by Impa. 5/32, the best shirt in the game. It’s Link’s blue tunic from the trailers and memories, however, it has no set, and thus, no set bonus.
Recommended level: 5

Ancient Set

Possible the best set in the game. 4/28, very good set. Set bonus gives you a boost against Guardians, one of the toughest enemies in the game.
Recommended level: 4

Hero of the Wild

The best set in the game. 4/28, with a set bonus of Master Sword beam up. While you could argue the ancient set is better, this tunic is also amazing.
Recommended level: 5
