Stuntworks #42: Stuntworks training Wire Assisted Falls.
In the world of stunts in film and TV, today wire-assisted falls are a common place.
German stuntman Oliver Juhrs love working with this guy
Wire assisted falls allows the performer to come closer to the ground or object they are hitting in one shot before you have to cut away for the impact shot.
New York Stunt Teen Elvis Valentino Lopez, his first high fall into an airbag.
If not the fall has to be done into stunt pit, air bag or boxes depending on the height of the fall and the safety of the performer.
There are always pros and cons. If the air bag is used it takes up a lot of the landing area and you have cut way before the landing area like 6' feet to 10' feet above.
The pro with wire is you can land them on the mark safely. Take longer to set up and requires a rigging team and equipment.
Plus the cost of visual effects having to erase the wire used. The main reason to use wire is that you get closer and it is safer for the performer.
From my experience, the past 10 years wire assisted fall have over taken air bag falls by over 75 percent. Making wire the preferred option in film and TV industry today.

Both options look like great fun. I know it is serious work but I bet you have a fantastic time doing it.
Thank you, yes both are fun and scary. With the air bag you got to hit the sweet spot and hit it right or you can get hurt. With wire your putting your trust in the stunt riggers and thier gear.
