Why Does Google Want Your DNA?

in #video7 years ago

Within all of us are traces of the past, present, and future. We carry the imprint of our ancestors which resulted in the sequence of right now— us—in this moment, chock-full of quirks our children will inherit—all written into our DNA: the hereditary material found in everyone, but is so specific and unique to an individual that it can reveal how likely we are to have freckles, how we interpret different tastes and smells, if we're carriers for certain diseases, and how our genes indicate our overall well-being. DNA tells a story, acting as a roadmap through our body's deeply intimate data.

An individual's DNA is more identifying than a name, a social security number, or even a fingerprint.

So why is a multinational tech company with a focus on internet-related services and products so interested in the genetic codes of millions of strangers? Why does a company that data mines from you want to mine DNA from you?

And most importantly, why does Google want your DNA?

Everybody wants my DNA ;)

All this will be possible with BLOCKCHAIN technology :(

@johndogett Our project is already on this, working to use Blockchain :) Have a great day! Great post Grace! resteemed.

Awesome job, this is the kind of awareness that is needed... Are you on discord or steemchat, would love to have a chat with you...

welcome to the brave new technocratic future. makes me want to spend the rest of my life in a monastery thinking about better things.

Great idea to share this important information. You always deliver with a special quality other content providers lack, it's informative and gentle and provides the listener with enough facts to help them understand in just the right amount of time. They can take my DNA when I'm dead...till then I'd never just give it away, let alone, pay someone to take it from me. They're playing on this epidemic of self-absorption and ego we're infected with as a society today...taking advantage of our constant need to focus on ourselves. The commercials get me every time, someone saying how much they learned about their own life through finding out who was genetically connected to their existence, when who they are today actually has very little to do with their ancestors, but is more about their own personal experiences and life lessons.

I would even worry about them having my DNA when I’m dead - considering I have a daughter! Hopefully they don’t already have it...The good news is that I’ll continue to live for today and only let my “worries” serve me, as caution and as a way I can educate my loved ones.
I definitely agree with the reasons you’ve stated as to why those people are paying to have their DNA analyzed (at their own peril). It’s doubtful they realize what they’ve gotten themselves into but then again, they probably wouldn’t care if they knew.
Have a great day!

@reallygraceful, a lot of this stuff is just plain scary, and yet not surprising. We created a "machine" that allegedly was intended to make our lives easier, but we have to keep feeding it pieces of our virtual and real "souls" in order for it to keep running. It's life depends on it... and WE do not believe we can survive without the "machine."

Did we really give up our information willingly? Or were we coerced, or manipulated? I think we were lured; we were offered "90-day free trials" in exchange for our information, and since many Humans are struggling to make ends meet — OR suffer from a severe case of FOMO — we take these offers, not knowing that we just paid a price.

Why do they want our DNA? Just another level of marketing; another way to make a pitch, poking at our fears, but now in a supremely specific way.

"Dear Ms. Really Graceful! It has come to our attention that since you have genetic marker 245-ab-8, you're at increased risk for rectal bleeding after consuming carrots. But don't worry, we're pleased to enclose this 30-day supply of the antidote (which contains crack, so you'll want to buy it forever!) because we CARE about your health and longevity. Remember, if we can help you live to 120, you'll be our customer for an extra 40 years!"

=^..^=

Congratulation reallygraceful! Your post has appeared on the hot page after 28min with 10 votes.

Very well done and very interesting, I didn't realize the family connection that Google has with 23andme.

Interesting but scary at the same time. I didn't know about the immortality Google thing or the designer babies. Thanks for your informative video!

When this stuff first came out, the first thing I thought was "population control". Everything is about money in today's world. Follow the money and see the truth.
