Analyzing the national anthem of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

in #venezuela7 years ago

The national anthem is a patriotic song that describes the honor of the spirit of the homeland and the courage of the people of Caracas as an example of courage to achieve freedom.

Here I will place the entire national anthem:

Glory to the brave people
that cast away the yoke
abiding the Law,
virtue and honor.

¡Down with the chains! (x2)
Cried the landowner
and the poor one, in her hut
for Freedom he prayed:
and on the face of this holy name
vile selfishness
that had once again triumphed
shook with fear.

Let us cry with zest: (x2)
¡Drath to oppresion! (x2)
My loyal countrymen,
unity is strength;
and from the Empyrean Heaven
the Supreme Maker
blew into the people
a most sublime breath.

Tied together with bonds (x2)
forged in Heaven (x2)
all of America
exists as a single nation,
and should despotism
raise his voice,
follow on the example
that Caracas gave us.

Let's analyze it.

Let's go with the first stanza:

¡Down with the chains! (x2)
Cried the landowner
and the poor one, in her hut
for Freedom he prayed:
and on the face of this holy name
vile selfishness
that had once again triumphed.
shook with fear.

The first stanza indicates the breaking of the chains of slavery. The expression "the poor man in his hut" indicates the conditions in which the slaves who cried out for freedom lived. The invocation to break the chains is apparently made by God, since later on he says, to "this holy name" which does not indicate what it is. The "vile selfishness trembled with dread", that is to say with fear at the supplication made, yet denotes that it had no success, because "he triumphed again".

Let's continue with the second verse:

Let us cry with zest: (x2)
¡Drath to oppresion! (x2)
My loyal countrymen,
unity is strength;
and from the Empyrean Heaven
the Supreme Maker
blew into the people
a most sublime breath.

The second stanza is a firm exclamation to "shout with verve", which means with energy, courage and boldness, so that oppression, that is to say the domination of the Spanish, dies. It also evokes as a reflection where it is recognized that in the union of the faithful patriots, those men who fight for freedom, there is strength. From the Empyrean, it means from the lofty, the celestial, the Supreme Author, that is to say God, a "sublime encouragement to the people infused", which impacted him that gave a glorious breath to continue with his struggles.

Now let us proceed to the third and final stanza:

Tied together with bonds (x2)
forged in Heaven (x2)
all of America
exists as a single nation,
and should despotism
raise his voice,
follow on the example
that Caracas gave us.

In the third stanza, he describes how America was formed by the union of bonds from heaven, which indicates that as by divine will America was formed as a nation. And he clarifies that if despotism, tyranny, raise their voices, that is, the dominant Spaniards have intentions of continuing with oppression, the example that Caracas set must be followed.

And the chorus:

Glory to the brave people
that cast away the yoke
abiding the Law,
virtue and honor.

The chorus exalts the brave people who were courageous in breaking the yoke, the chains of oppression, with respect for the laws, the virtue, the justice and the honor or the dignity of those who fight for freedom.
