RE: Cuba´s Classic: shiny oldtimers in front of beautiful colonial houses in Old Havana

Visiting Cuba must have been like traveling back in time! I'm amazed that they were able to keep these types of cars going for so long, but I guess that they really had no choice.

Oh yeah, visiting Cuba does feel like traveling in time (especially for someone like us who have a communist history too) and yeah, they had to take care of these cars since they literally had no other choice. Very good points as always :)

I wonder how Cuba will be like in 5-10 years though. From what I understand, they can now trade with the US again, so it will only be a matter of time before all these old cars are long gone.

Yeah, that is right. However, a vast majority of the locals still remain incredibly poor so it will take some time (probably decades) before they are able to afford new cars. Until then, they need to use and care for the old ones I suppose.

I didn't even think of that, but it does make sense. I'm hoping they are able to get out of poverty now that the trade restrictions have reduced. Things like Cuban cigars and rum are in heavy demand, so I suppose they have some potential for an export industry.
