I took the liberation pledge, why?
What is it?
Why do I think its worth causing some conflict?
The Liberation pledge is about changing the culture of violence against animals in one generation. The way that the liberation pledge works is it disrupts systems of violence by choosing not to be silent when products of violence are being consumed.
If someone is going to eat your cat you would not sit down and eat your food next to them.
The Liberation pledge is about denormalizing the abuse of innocent animals.
Speciesism is discrimination against non human animals based on species. We treat certain animals as family, and others as slaves and objects, even though we cant bear to see them suffer.
Would you take the pledge?
Personally, I hadnt taken the pledge because I didnt want be in tough situations with family friends. But thats ok! The pledge can be taken on a spectrum of how much one is inspired to commit to it, alot of people choose to just do it with there friends, others just with family, or in the house. Whatever you are comfortbale with!
Most people go Vegan for the health benefits, and that makes it much easier to begin to face the terrible reality that animals live with everyday. So dont be afraid to take it slow and just get inspired. Research the amazing environmental, health benefits, and ethicalities of shifting to a Vegan or Plant Based lifestyle. I highly recommend watching Cowspiracy on Netflix, to learn about the environmental impact of diet on the entire planet. There is also What the Health on Vimeo and soon Netfilx too, a phenomenal film on the health benefits of a plant based diet and the conspiracy between big pharma, government, and the animal agriculture industry to keep you living sick and stuck on medications and surgeries.
I am a new vegan and not ready to take the liberation pledge yet, but you make me think about it and it is the firts step. Thank you.
