Organii sun cream review

I test out the new natural SPF 30 vegan sun cream and SPF 15 facial sun cream from Organii.

Organii was founded on the mindset of offering high-quality organic and natural body care products at an affordable price. Its range includes everything from sun care to shower gel, soap and mouthwash—for which it has won several awards including The Green Parent Natural Beauty Awards 2018.

I found this brand while searching for some new natural cruelty-free sun cream and was drawn in by its fun and playful packaging. The suncare range consists of SPF 20, 30 and 50 body cream, a SPF 15 facial cream and also an aftersun cream. Due to holidaying predominantly in the UK and Europe, I opted for the mid-range SPF 30 body cream and the SPF 15 facial cream.

Ingredients

What I liked about the Organii range, aside from the fact that it's vegan and hasn't been tested on animals, is that it's suitable for all skin types including children. My skin is quite sensitive and I do find conventional suncream quite oily, so I was excited to try its products out.

Its natural mineral suncare range is free from synthetic ingredients, fragrance, colourants, parabens and other chemical nasties. While the ingredients may vary slightly per product, the SPF 30 cream ingredients are:

INGREDIENTS: aqua (water), polyglyceryl-3 polyricinoleate, olea europaea fruit oil, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, caprylic/capric triglyceride, glycerin, alcohol, prunus amygdalus dulcis oil, cocos nucifera oil, dicaprylyl ether, alumina, stearic acid, helianthus annuus seed oil, simmondsia chinensis oil, argania spinosa kernel oil, linum usitatissimum oil, magnesium sulphate eptahydrate, hydrated silica, daucus carota root extract, tocopherol, bisabolol, oryzanol, polyhydroxystearic acid, magnesium stearate, parfum**, benzyl salicylate, limonene, linalool.

Both the cardboard container and plastic tubes are recyclable.

And the non-latin version (FYI I’ve translated this list by myself and taken great care to ensure the information is correct. But please let me know if you spot any errors):

How does it work?

The active mineral ingredients, which protect you from the sun, are the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. These minerals aren't absorbed by the skin (because they are too big) and instead sit on the surface and work by reflecting the sun's rays. This ensures you don't absorb any harmful rays. After translating part of the list, it was also nice to see the sun cream contained some organically sourced oils that are really good for your skin. These include coconut, argan and jojoba. They are great at repairing cells and moisturising. I use these regularly to make my own DIY facial moisturiser. (See how here.)

So how did it perform?

I've been using the sun creams for about two months now (in this very hot UK heat wave) and I've been really impressed. While the consistency is quite thick and white, it rubs in and doesn't leave any white marks. A little also goes a long way, so the product is quite economical. While the brand says the product is un-fragranced, to me the sun creams do have a slight scent. It's very mild and not unpleasant. Kind of like conventional sun cream smell, only milder and earthier. You can barely smell it once it's on.

The product works well and appears to protect the skin. I haven't been burnt whilst wearing it and I only re-apply once, if I feel it's necessary and I'm going to be out walking all day.

The SPF 30 comes in a 125ml tube.

In comparison to Nivea

In comparison to conventional sun cream (I used Nivea to test), Organii worked just as well in terms of sun protection. I covered one arm in Nivea and one in Organii to test. After a full days sun exposure, neither looked red or burnt. The main differences between the two are that Organii takes a little more time to rub in fully. This wasn't a problem for me. The scent is also much milder (which I think is a good thing.) Plus Organii is 100% natural, vegan and not tested on animals making it a clear winner!

Another bonus is that I didn't find Organii at all greasy. I was worried about using it on my face, but it rubbed it well and I didn't get spots after using it.

The only change I would make is the application. A spray application would be really useful, especially if you have children, and it ensures only the right amount comes out of the bottle. In the tube, it's best to store the products upside down. Otherwise, some leaks out when you unscrew the top.
