It’s a vegan world!

Vegetarianism and veganism are no longer a passing fad, they are here to stay whether you like it or not. Not just for those skinny, pale types, who pride themselves at doing several hours of cardio at the gym, to maintain their minuscule physiques. Unless you have been living under a rock, you would probably have noticed that there is an ever increasing amount of meat free selections at your local grocer. Vegetarian/vegan foods are not just in the extremely overpriced health food stores, they are in your major chains which is gradually making these choices more affordable.

So all the carnivores out there are asking themselves why the shift? Well it seems like we have been grossly mislead about the benefits of meat and dairy products from the very beginning. We have gotten by on years of dated research, but now we finally have a preponderance of evidence pointing to that little ignored fact that mom used to tell us was so important......you need to eat your veggies! Maybe mom had a point then? She had provided those words of wisdom without knowing how strong those words would become years later. Ironically many of these parents that touted the benefits of eating your veggies seem to become conflicted when their children take those words to heart and become vegetarian or vegan! Why must you condemn them for not eating meat! 😢 A lack of education and research is the culprit leading to all these naysayers. Coming from a fitness background I had sold sports supplements and touted the 1.5-2.0 grams of protein regimen learned from every Muscle and Fitness and Flex magazine ever written. I lived that philosophy chugging multiple shakes in my 6 meals a day routine. As I got older I started to realize that even if I didn’t get my “mandated”protein intake daily I was not losing muscle or strength. Through observation I started to realize that my protein requirements were grossly over exaggerated by magazines which of course are paid by sports nutrition companies. Through my plant based research I found out that my high protein intake was probably doing more harm than good to my body. Imagine that!🤔

It’s a definite paradigm shift, towards plant based foods. There is still a huge lack of education for the majority of the general public, but things are getting better. If you can’t beat em, join em! All of the major food companies are finally realizing that they’re at risk of losing out on millions of dollars if they don’t start providing plant based options. They have been quitely buying out small plant based companies and coming out with vegan versions such as the vegan Kit Kat bar or the Beyond Burger, so real it actually bleeds when you cook it! Of course beet juice and not real blood, but you get the point!

Society is quickly accepting the fact that our old food pyramid doesn’t matter and isn’t relevant in today’s world. Our world is getting overpopulated and we can’t continue producing food at the current rate without negatively impacting our environment through increased energy consumption and increased omissions released into the air.
Through continued efforts to increase awareness of plant-based foods people are starting to realize that we really can get protein from plants, contrary to popular belief! In conclusion, whether we like it or not, I see plant-based foods industry growing towards 50 percent or more of our food supply in the next five years. So get with the program and embrace your plant based options!🥦🍏🍅

I love that there are so many vegetarian/vegan options out there now. My small town recently gained an all vegan restaurant. Its soooo great to be able to go to a restaurant and get delicious vegetarian food instead of ordering just some fries and a salad! :)
