Little History

In the 80's the Video Home System (VHS) won the war against Betamax of Sony, because it was significantly cheaper, advocated greater recording times (Sony had limited the registration to one hours for NTSC systems) etc.

JVC designed the technology, gave the license to several manufacturers, who then, because of the competition, threw the prices even more. The dominance of VHS stopped with the rise of DVD, in 1997. Up to 2003, the DVD discs have almost completely replaced the VHS tapes in renting. The latest movie released in this format is  "A History of Violence" by David Cronenberg.
