An Intorduction to Vaping - What is it, How it Works, and More
Vaping has grown into a subculture that brings together people of all backgrounds and regions of the world. It is the act of inhaling vapor which has been produced by a tool such as a vaporizer or an electronic cigarette also known as e-cigs. The material from which the vapor is generated may vary among dried herbs, a concentrate, or an e-liquid also commonly referred to as e-juice.
The tool that is most often used to vape is called a vaporizer, which is essentially an electric device. A vaporizer runs on a battery which generates enough power for heating in the atomizer or in the cartomizer. That, in turn, transforms the vaping material of choice into vapor which can be inhaled. Vaporizers are suited for different materials, but some have a chamber that can be exchanged so that a vaper can use the same tool with different vaping materials. E-liquids for example, require a tank, while dry herbs require a heating chamber.
The most common substance for vaping is e-juice or e-liquid. It consists of a base made of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin. The e-juice also contains flavorings, and the buyer can op out for an e-juice that either contains nicotine or is nicotine free. The vapor comes in a plethora of flavors which can vary from basic flavor such as fruity all the way to more complex flavorings such as vanilla bean ice cream which chocolate chips for example. Unlike a traditional cigarette, vapor has a pleasant smell. The smoke itself is thicker than that of a cigarette, and the smell dissipates quickly and does not linger.
The Greek historian Herodotus mentioned the first notion of vaping. He described how the Eurasian people Scythians would use cannabis, or marijuana onto red-hot stones and inhale the vapor that would rise. Hundreds of years later the hookah came to be and even though it is not very related t vaping, the contraption was the first step to the modern vaporizer. The modern vaporizer had not changed much since 1960 when H. Gilbert patented it. There are only a few improvements such as versatile cartridges in some models.
What's with the most popular vaping material being e-juice, vapers are concerned about the quality of the product including packaging and storing. One of the questions that arise about the quality is whether plastic packaging or glass packaging is best in order to preserve the freshness and the flavor of the product.
While new vapors are not as concerned about such matters, more experienced vapers are, as they invest money in that and care about higher quality. On the debate plastic v. glass, glass containers are superior due to the properties of plastic. Plastic packaging deteriorates faster due to the ph level or the acidity level of the plastic versus the e-liquid. Storing your vape liquid in a glass container will prolong its shelf life and keep its quality for much longer than a plastic container would. Plastic also has the tendencies to mess with the flavor of the liquid, making it loos its fragrance.
For people who are not very familiar with vaping the question of health safety always arises. There are far more smokers than there are vapers, so the answer to those questions is not as widely known. According to Public Health England, vaping is at least 95 percent safer for your health than traditional smoking, and that is a huge percentage.
Another benefit of vaping when it comes to smokers is that vaping can, in fact, help you quit smoking. Many of the elements of smoking are still present such a the sucking motion as well as the smoke. At the same time, vaping is not recommended to those who are not smokers as it might serve as a gateway for some people to nicotine which is known to be addictive.
