Eating like a king/queen on the road.

I love living nomadic, from the people and animals you meet, to the places you go and will go to.
But Ive noticed that people try to fit into molds they have made in their minds. One of those molds that people have comes to food. When you are sitting around a campfire at night with your new friends, you don't want to eat Mac n Cheese or canned beans. It's 2018 and cooking food isnt all that hard. You can make amazing meals right over your campfire with minimal extra effort.

Food is one of the best ways to impress people and add value to your community.

I recently made a trek out to Slab City, California for a few days for some R&R. One of the dishes I've just discovered and was eager to make was the dish I show you today.

What you need:

  • Cast Iron Dutch Oven
  • A bag of Sauerkraut
  • 1 can of buttermilk biscuits
  • Shredded cheese
  • 1-Kielbasa sausage link

I dont have a tripod but I recommend getting one if you want a bigger fire. I wanted to slow-cook this dish so I made a small fire and kept the coals hot. My dutch-oven needed to be re-seasoned so I put some olive oil and put my dutch oven over the fire with the lid on for a half-hour.

Slice up your sausage and mix it in with your sauerkraut.

You can really get creative by adding spices for extra flavor. I threw in some Cumin, Cayenne and a dried Habanero to the mix. These dishes you cook should be forgiving and also give you plenty of space to experiment..

    Add your biscuits.

Lets this cook for a while before putting your cheese on.

    Add Cheese.

    ENJOY

This dish does not cost much money and also has the added benefit of being healthy because sauerkraut is fermented and good for your gut biome!
