This is actually the first movie of his I saw that I didn't love. And you're right, that's one big problem -- casting someone who should be playing 15 year olds in movies about high school. I can't say the title helped.

Some of the movies Besson was envolved in, are too... french for me. I find french movies often a bit weird, especially if they are trying to be funny. They easily overdo it a bit then. Or in the serious movies, they get often too cryptic and long drawn.
Well, every country seems to have its own characteristics in movies. German movies are also rather weird at times.

I don't think I've ever seen a serious French movie ...

Well, may be you have. But you thought you are watching a picture from a surveilance camera showing a scene where nothing happens. :)
