#Vaccines: Who to blame?

in #vaccine7 years ago

A dengue vaccine or also known as Dengvaxia bought by the DOH (Department of Health ) of the Philippines which aimed to protect the school children from dengue may have exposed their lives to danger.

There are around 10 percent of over 800, 000 students who were immunized with Dengvaxia, but did not have a prior dengue infection, now face contracting a "severe disease", according to the vaccine's manufacturer Sanofi Pasteur. (source: CNN Philippines)

The University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) is set to review the deaths of 14 children who had received the Dengvaxia dengue vaccine. However, according to Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Enrique Domingo that only about 4 of them had dengue written as cause of death in their death certificates. The other cases died of other causes.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III suspened the vaccination program last December after Sanofi announced Dengvaxia could cause a person who received it to develop severe dengue symptoms if he or she had been infected by the virus prior to vaccination.

As of now, the DOH is monitoring around 873, 000 vaccinated Filipino grade school students.

Parents of those kids vaccinated are all in worries.
Now who are we going to blame?
The former Health Secretary Janette Garin who hosted the worlwide launch of Dengvaxia and who issued the disbursement of the vaccine?

The Philippine Children's Medical Center (PCMC) who made a 3 billion pesos purchase order for the vaccines without approval from the FEC.

The former President Aquino who was also involved in the talk between the Sanofi officials and former Health Secretary Garin?

or

The Sanofi Pasteur who developed the vaccine?
