Grandpas house

in #vacations8 years ago

This past week was our family vacation. Like every year before, we headed west to our family farm house not far from Kincardine on Ontarios West Coast, home of the most beautiful beaches. This isn't your average cottage though; it is my father in laws grandfathers house and I'm guessing that it hasn't been touched for at least 50 years. Our week away each year isn't just a week away from our routine at home, it's a week back in time. From the ice box style freezer to the vintage wall paper, this is a hipsters dream

The house is a gorgeous plantation style home with a beautiful wrap around porch facing north and west. It's the perfect place to watch the sun set on Ontarios West Coast, some of the most beautiful I've seen.

We spent our week eating corn, watching sun sets, eating poutine and playing on the beach. My eldest son discovered the joy of lake Huron and embraced the waves, sand and sun. He is a cautious boy and has always wanted to do life in his own way, on his own time. This was the first year that I saw him learn to love the water, embrace the waves and conquer what used to be a fear of his; the unknown world of water!

The week was a much needed respite from my busy daily life with 2 boys and especially for my husband who has been working day and night designing. You can check out some of his older work here. We really had such a lovely time and each year we become more thankful for the home that we can share, for the warm sand and caribbean blue waves and the memories that we are making with our boys.

Stay tuned for some favourite recipes from our week away.
