Crowdsourcing Supremo Utopian Go Crowdfunding on Indiegogo

I’ve been reading today about the Utopian campaign to raise approx. $35,000 in the next 30 days for the Beta release of “Utopian Colony”; a platform for open source collaboration, where digital professionals will connect with and be rewarded by open source innovation projects.

The campaign is covered in detail here, and having read up on the latest news of the campaign and project roadmap, I’ve just become their first “Dreamer Bundle" Supporter with my $10 donation:

Background

If I wind back to April 2018, I was privileged to meet some of the Utopian team in London where they were giving a speech to blockchain enthusiasts about their proof of concept project Utopian v1.0, which involved developing opportunities for all kinds of people to get rewarded for a variety of digital contributions to open source projects.The proof of concept leveraged the Steem community and has been a huge success, with professional contributions from a variety of fields to open source initiatives being moderated and rewarded by a core team. The results for the proof of concept are staggering:

During the project Utopian realised that there were even more opportunities to connect skilled digital professionals to digital open source projects, especially around the skills of copywriting, translating, graphic design, marketing and analysis and have started to build out a new Utopian Colony which is a fully-featured end to end solution to match the needs of the open source ecosystem and the contribution community.

Even before Utopian Colony goes live in Q2 2019 they have built a community; and one which is well balanced with news, technology and community spirit. Over the last 6-12 months, the team have built a sustainable way to run online Hackathons known as uHacks, and a weekly podcast show.

Funding

Utopian are looking to raise $35,000 to fund the beta release of Utopian Colony, with the funds predominantly going on developing the platform (80%) but also to support the marketing (10%) and the infrastructure and legal needs (10%).Backers to the Indigogo will get preferential perks, including digital badges and early access to the Colony; with perks packaged at varying levels:
