Proposal for Sorting of Repositories based on Codes, Commits, Issues, Topics, Wikis, Users and Offline Mode feature.
Components
FastHub is an open source client for the Github, It is an unofficial app for serving the Github accounts. This app however has some missing features which are related to the searching of the Repositories. There is no sort feature for the Repositories search, we can have more advanced sort feature which I will propose in the upcoming section.
Proposal
In this section I will be suggesting various advancements in the search option for repositories, as there is no filter available for the same. The features are discussed below.
1. GENERAL
With this type of the sorting we can search for the Repositories based on most starred or least starred Repositories. Also this is based on most forks or least forks or even the least or most updated repository. The category general is already type of a sorting based on Repositories which can be then sorted again on the above stated ways, also shown below.
CODE
The search of the Repositories can br sorted according to the type of the coding and this can in itself be sorted again, depending upon which repository is indexed recently or the opposite can be the other option. It is also shown below.
COMMITS
Repositories can be sorted on the based of the commits which are usually formulated by the owners of Repositories. The sorting of the commits can be done depending upon which repository is recently committed or authored or the least committed or authored. This is shown below.
ISSUES
Repositories can be sorted based on the Issues which are present, this leads to comments or updates, So this sorting will be based on the recent comments or the updates of the Repositories. This is also shown below.
TOPICS
The sorting of the Repositories can be done on the basis of the topics, the topics of different repositories can be similar. This can lead to searching for the Repositories with similar topics e.g, Blockchain, Utopian etc.
WIKIS
The sorting of the repositories which can be based on the databases, Repositories can be linked to similar database, and the sorting can be done on the basis of the recent updates of the databases. Also shown below.
USERS
The search of the repositories based on the users associated with the GitHub, this will mean we can sort based on the when the user has joined and the number of his/her followers. This is shown below.
OFFLINE MODE
The use of the GitHub in the offline mode can be real bonus, Atleast the access to the exisiting Repositories can be possible, and the changes can be made which can be later updated with the availability of the data. This mode should be included very soon.
Mockups / Examples
The example of the sorting for the search of the Repositories will be shown below with the help of an image, these Categories are later sorted again as shown above in a bifurcated manner.
Benefits
The Benefits of the above discussed features can be as follows.
There will be advancement in the searching of the repositories which is very important addition for the users, as this helps to find the specific repository in aj organized manner.
The app has less benefits for the user to shift from the desktop to the app. Addition of these features will give him more reasons to start using this client as this is the better client out of many available.
Offline Mode is a feature which will need some execution, But can be a huge bonus for the users and the app. An organized offline mode will give good access to the user and will use it anywhere.
