Steeditor - The App to Edit Your Steemit Posts With <Part 1>

Introduction

In this article, I aim to take a look at one of the applications running on the Steem blockchain via which we can edit our posts, add templates and save drafts.

I was browsing through Steemit.com on one of my most fortunate days when I came across a comment made by the Utopian account asking users to set utopian.pay as a 5% payout beneficiary on their contribution post. This contribution post, according to the comment, was to be made via the Steemplus or Steeditor platform. Clicking on the Steeditor link took me away from Steemit to the Steeditor app where I was greeted with a very simple platform.

Yes, the Steeditor app looks very simple and quite bare but it is really powerful to use when you finally begin using it. Now, another beautiful thing about this Steeditor app is that for you to use it, you must first log in. And to log in, you need to click on the login button which then opens the Steemconnect login page for you.

This is a pretty important aspect of the app as you would have no fear of security breaches coming from a third party app. Steeditor does not save your keys so you can login without fear and begin using the app right away. Once logged in into Steeditor app, you would see a general overview of your Steem account, when it was created, reputation and voting power.

Scrolling down below, you can see your recent posts, recent drafts and recent templates, if you have created any in recent times. When you scroll down further, you will see your wallet information - vests, Steem and SBD balance. Also on this page, you can say the witnesses you have voted for. If you haven't voted anyone yet, you'd see the message "You haven't voted on anyone yet".

Now, there are three major buttons on the Steeditor app - the drafts, the templates and the posts button. Click on each of them to learn what they are all about. For drafts, as the name implies, they are posts that you're working on but have yet to complete. If you click on the draft button, you will see your draft if you have any. If you don't, you won't see any, only a message requesting you to add a new draft.

To add a draft, there's a small circular button at the bottom right corner of the screen. It has an orange colour with a black '+' sign in it. That is the button for adding new drafts. When you click on it, you will be given the option of choosing an existing template for your draft, or creating a new one.

Steeditor supports utopian so the major templates you would find there are utopian templates for the different utopian categories. Choose the one that suits your post and you can start creating your content right away with the automatically filled in guidelines. Also, the utopian-io tag and that of the category you are writing under is automatically added to the tag section. Add the title and go on to add other important details.

The second button is the templates button. By default, you will have no templates created on the Steeditor app except you have been using it before. There is a button to add new template. It is a small rectangular button with an orange colour with the words "add" written inside. Click on the button and you will see a form come up. Fill out the necessary information, such as the name and a short description of the new template you are creating.

Just like you'd see in the utopian template, you can also add some important information in the post body section of the template. You can include headings, subheadings and even a custom image thumbnail. This would make it easy for you when creating a new post.

When you are done adding all you wish to add, save the template. On clicking on the templates button again, you will see the new template you have saved. On that template, you'll also see the delete icon and edit icon options. Click on any of them for whatever action you wish to take.

The third button is the posts button. Here, you will see a rundown of all posts you have made from recent down to when you first created your account on this Steem blockchain. If you scroll down, there is the option to load more posts. These posts show up in a small card format with their creation dates and the thumbnail images. I wonder why the thumbnails are not showing as is shown in the screenshot added.

One good thing about the Steeditor app is that you can also edit your old posts just as you can edit your templates. The edit icon is attached on every post you have made on the blockchain. Unfortunately, the blockchain does not allow us the option of deleting old posts so you will not be able to delete any of your old posts. As you can see, there is no delete icon unlike the one we saw in the template section.

Finally, there is your profile picture sitting at the top right corner of your screen with three dots beside it. Clicking on the dots, you'd see your username and two options. The first option will take you away to your dashboard while the second option will log you out of the Steeditor app.

The Steeditor app is a great one and the fact that they are in collaboration with Utopian, makes it even a worthwhile platform. I like the fact that it supports the markdown styling feature as this is what I used in creating this post. I also love the simplicity and easy-to-understand nature of the Steeditor app.

Hopefully, in the next post under this series, we will look at how to create our post, the different markdown styling features available on Steeditor and the advanced options section. Also, we will look at some salient features here on the Steeditor app that is important but not widely used.
