Into The Great Abyss: A game about exploration and resource management
What is the project about?
Into The Great Abyss is a game about exploring a new planet and trying to figure out who you are and how you got there. It features procedural planets and procedural resources. Each planet will have a unique look as well as unique challenges to building. You may find yourself on a barren planet lacking in resources that can easily be used for fuel. Or you may find yourself in a lush garden world where there is nothing strong available for building. Either way you will have to learn about your environment and figure out how to work with what you have.
The game itself is mostly going to be focused on resource management. The resources available and their properties will be unique to each planet so the player will have to learn about their world in order to make the best use of the resources that they can!
The game is mostly played using a 2D interface and a map from an aerial perspective. But inside each base there will be a constrained 3D view where the player can scan for resources among other things.
We are early in development and at this point just have the basic interactions in place. Most recently we updated the entire project to work with the new Godot 3.0 style.
Technology Stack
We are currently focusing on releasing a desktop version as well as a browser based version. Depending on how things pan out we may attempt to release on mobile as well. We are hoping Godot will make it fairly easy to target multiple platforms at once.
This game is developed completely with Godot (currently running on 3.02)
