WordPress Author Rating
Good day. I am here to submit my idea as a contribution to WordPress.com
i have gone through a few blogs powered by wordpress.com. i have come to note that there is no way to know an authors reputation except you read through their works and words. A screenshot from wordpress.com below
Coming back home to steemit.com, the platform has given a rare opportunity for a newbie or visitor to know the reputation score of an author or blogger. Screenshot below.
It is of great importance to understand that some systems have the regulation behind the reputation score or rating. For example steemit gives reputation based on upvotes. Googleplay gives rating to apps based on popular votes and this is important to guide a new user to know which app to download or not. And this has saved the day for many users.
My Idea
I suggest that wordpress.com should include an Author Rating to the profiles of each author (for example where the red arrow is in the screenshot below:
And this should be determined by:
- The average number of likes per post of the author or blog.
- The age of the author's blog i.e. the time the author started blogging.
- The public rating of the author
I suggest that there should be a way for the public to rate author's apart from liking there post. This would give the author a feedback on the opinion of the society on his work. Googleplay has a place where you can give a review of the app by adding stars, check the screenshot below
Benefits of Author Rating
- It helps to give a public opinion about a writer.
- It helps researchers or google to know the results to display first when search for a records on a particular topic.
- It helps, encourages and challenges authors to do better and improve on their work.
- WordPress will become far more competitive as authors will put in their best to provide QUALITY information to the public.

The idea sounds good. But, especially when it comes to politics or controversial topics, allowing people to rate them can simply be used to target and tear down/discredit an author. I just think certain aspects of this can be dangerous if leveraged the wrong way. Especially since you are brining in Google and their search results/algorithm on this.
Articles should be judged on the content, not the author. Also, what would you do about those who wish to remain anonymous? Would participation be required as well?
I don't know, I just see too many red flags with this and too many things that can go wrong if a person or group of people don't agree with you or don't like what you're doing.
Yes i believe you are right, but i see this from another perspective, take for example googleplay store, i believe such scenario as you mentioned must exist, yet its on the low.
My idea does not include users being able to flag authors and visitors being able to directly rate the authors is only one of the criteria for determining the overall rating, so i believe with that issues of politics will be on the low.
Plus, for every every controversial issue or politics there will always be supporters
I've seen it happen quite a few times with the rating system on the Play Store and iOS App Store. Perhaps having some kind of reputation algorithm would be a better way to show an authors rating. Formulating their likes, comments, posts, etc. into an algorithm that dynamically generates an author rating. I personally think that would be a better idea.
Maybe include a rating system as well that has a very minor affect in the algorithm, or no effect at all. That way it would just serve as an additional rating to the algorithmic one.
