The Price Our Soldiers Pay

I'm so excited that our son is finally here
I'm so relieved to know he is back in our home
But I don't understand why he's so quiet
And why he spends so much time alone

The man tried to explain to his loving wife
The scars of war can last a long time
Our son has seen things we can't imagine
It will take a while but he should be fine

He said the scars of war can be deep and ugly
And some scars never go away
All we can do is help him deal with the scars
You just get up and keep trying every day

She said to her husband with concern in her voice
He won't talk to me and I'm his mother
He said to his wife, You must understand
The brutal things people can do to each other

With tears in her eyes, she asked her husband
Will our son ever be like he was before
He said all we can do is give him our love and support
This is the price soldiers pay to fight a war
