The US scenario opened a flashy landing campaign to occupy the Iranian military base
If tensions with Iran continue to escalate, one of the US military plans is to launch a blizzard landing campaign aimed at the Iranian military base.
According to National Interest, Iran is one of the most powerful military forces currently faced by the United States. The country has a population equivalent to a quarter of the US population, with a long coastline, which is difficult for any military force to occupy.
But the United States is fully capable of launching an amphibious campaign aimed at a specific target within Iran's territory. That could be the near-shore goal or the Iranian base at sea, said Kyle Mizokami.
With a coastline of up to 2,500km, longer than the coastline of the US states of California, Orgeon and Washington combined. The long sea makes Iran easy to show off its strength in the Persian Gulf, but it is also a double-edged sword.
Because Iran also needs to spread its forces to protect 2,500km of coastline, especially against the US threat.
The Marines are one of the best forces of the US military. This force is equipped with all the equipment needed to open a large scale landing campaign.
One of the strategies that the US Marine Corps had recited, was to make a rapid landing of the target, protect this target in time and then withdraw its troops in the direction of the attack.
Iran has many military facilities along the long sea, belonging to the Navy and Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) of Iran. The Iranian Navy often operates east of the Strait of Hormuz, while the IRGC focuses on patrol to the west.
The Iranian Navy has many large warships, while IRGC uses small ships, or civilian ships, but is heavily armed.
According to Mizokami, the US could land Iran's military target as a warning if Iran continues to spray mines, capture Western sailors, or provoke them by speedboats.
In the past, Iran also often focused on dealing with the West at sea, so it was not proactive in preventing coastal bases. The US can completely choose the target of IRGC to achieve the highest goal, as well as weaken this force.
According to Mizokami, the forces that landed enough to attack the Iran base must include about 16,000 people. The amphibious ships attacked directly, while the destroyer and at least one US carrier combat group provided support from afar.
The campaign begins by disabling the enemy's air defense system. Tomahawk missiles are used to destroy fixed targets and command centers.
Firefighters armed on destroyers simultaneously fired and supported the marines. The United States could also equip amphibious rocket launchers (GMLS), which boosts attack power.
The Super Hornet, F-35C and F-35B F / A-18E / F aircraft are assigned to attack from afar, using guided weapons exactly like Stormbreaker bombs.
In terms of landings, the US can use the MV-22 Osprey, CH-53E helicopter and AH-1Z attack helicopter. In the air, the task belongs to LCAC and LCU air cushioning vessels.
Lander ships not only carry marines, but also armored vehicles, Abrams tanks, self-propelled guns. After a few hours, thousands of US marines needed to take control of the base and prepare to withdraw.
Of course, an amphibious assault landed and had a lot of risks and huge casualties. But this is the most appropriate way to both detain Iran and show off US military power without escalating conflict into a full-scale war, concluded Mizokami.
