What we drink in Serbia

Alcohol….Do you know anybody who didn’t say “I will never drink again” after crazy night? You get hangover free, but if you are lucky and have strong stomach you will take your drinking buddy home. Which is better or better ask which is worse?
If you are in Serbia and want to try how we party watch out on your alcohol choice

First place goes to Vinjak and V must be capital letter cause you need to respect its strength and watch out how you manage with it cause tomorrow you will have black holes and this drink will destroy you literally. When we talk about his history, you also must know that it was served only on the king’s court. Its makers produced it from grape brandy or vine with a bit of twist and a stronger destilate. The original recipe was a mixture of French konjac and tradicional shlivovitza (rakija-plum brandy). You can buy it in a small bottle and we call it “unuce” or grandchild. Funny?

Second place ofcourse goes to rakija. It’s also our tradicional drink made of fruits. If you ask me lozovacha is the strongest one. It’s made of grapes. The alcohol content of rakija (or rakia) is normaly 40%-50% but it can go highier. I found 10 best ranked rakija in our country. Here is the list:

1. Šljivovica/shlivovitza (made from plums)
2. Loza or lozovacha (made from grapes)
3. Komovica/komovitza (also made from grapes but from the leftovers after wringing)
4. Kajsija (made from apricot)
5. Viljamovka (made from pear)
6. Dunjevača/dunjevacha (made from apple quince)
7. Visnjevača/vishnjevacha (made from cherry)
8. Klekovača/klekovacha (made from slivovitza rakija or other fruit rakija and berries from juniper)
9. Orahovača/orahovacha (made from walnut )
10. Medovača/medovacha (made from honey and some rakija)

Third place goes to beer. There is no need to talk about how it's made. I recommend you to try Zajecarsko and Valjevsko, Kabinet brewery is maybe my favorite, especially Vertigo (Pilsner), but you should also try Bastardo (PA) and IPA Cascade

Gorki list is a brand of pelinkovac a bitter herbal liqueur based upon fernet. Gorki List was produced in Subotica. Many other drinks are made there. Its name means "bitter leaf" and alludes to its supposed herbal healing properties. You can drink it with slice of lemon or orange. Also you can drink it before meals as an excellent appetizer that opens the apetitte and after meal as a digestif

Fifth place on this list goes to kruskovac. It is a sweet liqueur with fresh aroma of pears and honey taste. Shelf life: unlimited. You can also use it in gastronomy.

Sixth place goes to tomato juice. You can buy it or better option is to make it. The process is not so complicated. You need to mix with spit only few hours. xD For me this is the best recipe for hangover.
