China Underground Bands

Today I want to introduce some underground music bands. Most of them used to play in BEIJING's live houses such as Temple, Mao, Dusk Dawn Club. If you want to know the live- house culture or some underground bands.Welcome to see my following contents.

Here are three bands I will introduce today.

Bang Bang Mary(Alternative)

Bang Bang Mary is a four-piece rock n roll band aiming to shoot up dance floors with tunes that will have the audience sweaty and exhausted by the end of every set. With one Brit and three South Africans in the band they draw influence from artists such as Arctic Monkeys, the band was founded in South Korea by the vocalist, Jamie. Fokofpolisiekar and Pretty Viscous. Their set is made up of originals with a few covers and are skilled at demolishing drum kits and jumping about in skinny jeans.
As the year came to the end, the vocalist, drummer (Rudi) and present bassist (Tyron) set their sights on China. Since arriving in Beijing in March 2017, they have played at various venues such as Temple Bar, School Bar and Hot Cat Club. The lead guitarist, Ulrich recently joined completing the bands’ dark, sweat inducing rock n roll sound.

Tavey Lean & The Solid Gold Dream Machine (Funk/Soul/RnB)

Tavey Lean and The Solid Gold Dream Machine is one of the most critically acclaimed and audience celebrated bands in Beijing, boasting an impressive repertoire of classic soul and RnB music. Riding on the power of Tavey’s “Al Green-Esque” Vocals, a 3-piece horn section, and a rock solid rhythm section, Solid Gold bring the funk!

MACONDØ (Post-rock, Math-rock)

Macondo make some of the most interesting and exciting music coming out of Beijing today: instrumental rock with elements of math-core, infused with vibes drawn from 70s psychedelic music, adding the production and sound of today's electronic music. Their unique music shifts from sounds that are ambient and heavy, spacious and dense to atmospheric but rhythmically driven. Bombastic drumming, layered with lush floating guitar textures and earth-shaking energetic bass attack, and otherworldly synthesiser sounds.
Formed in 2014, the band quickly made a splash on the Beijing music scene, their live shows left audiences open-mouthed, describing it as 'Volcano Rock'.
