Beautiful Nubia and the Roots Renaissance Band | A genre of songs with a fragrance of African Culture

in #ulog6 years ago (edited)

I woke up this morning and put on my Radio to listen to News just as usual. Just before the Session a Song was played and it says:
Good morning, I greet you, how do you do?
Good morning, I greet you, how do you do?
You’ve got some work to do... (OwuroL'Ojo eni maa rire o)
What a pleasant melody to start a morning. This as always been the favorite song of many radio stations on a beautiful morning. I fell in love this Song and wish to have it on my Playlist. So I typed a line of the Lyrics to Google to know the name of the song and who sang it. I discovered it was Beautiful Nubia , a Yoruba contemporary folk musician, not that familiar with him. On my search for a link to download the Song, I saw the list of his Songs and I started listening to the Songs one after the other. I could not believe my Ears;what a genre of acoustic/poetic Melody of Songs.

Segun Akinolu, having his performing name as Beautiful Nubia is a Nigerian-born songwriter, poet, singer and band leader. He is a veterinary trained doctor from the University of Ibadan. He practice in his discipline of profession as a Vet for about 10 years and then decided to become a full time musician. Wow!! what a courageous step to take after a long run in a career. A year later of getting on stage he formed a backing band of young musician called "Roots Renaissance Band". He in conjunction with his band are known for their unique music genre, releasing songs rich in contemporary folklore with fragrance of African culture and Yoruba traditional background. His songs preaches love, peace, values, respect and tolerance but also urges people to stand and defend their rights when trampled upon anywhere in the world.
Beautiful Nubia and the Roots Renaissance Band has been out there keeping the entertainment industry busy nut just with melody but with native wisdom retaining and maintaining the sweetness of the African tradition. Beautiful Nubia founded the EniObanke Records and organises a music festival called EniObanke Music Festival where young and talented voices are given opportunity to step on stage and express themselves.

Just a few seconds later, I wondered why Beautiful Nubia, then I searched to get a response as;

When I began to play music, I tried to find a name that’d suit my person. And so I settled for Beautiful Nubia. And so I added beautiful so that when people call me beautiful I’ll strive to be perfected. The Nubia thing has to do with African civilisation where the people of Nubia were champions. And I love Africa and I wanted to prove to the world that the people of Nubia gave the world civilisation.
This was how I got to be known as Beautiful Nubia. Many years ago, the Nubia people ruled the world, people with dark skin and so on. So, that’s the beauty there. But my real name is Olusegun Akinlolu.Thenationonline

My Favourite

Beautiful Nubia and the Roots Renaissance Band are doing great when it comes to playing folk-derived music like highlife, Afrojazz, and every thing music that has traditional background. Having released 20 albums with 300 tracks, there is one which seems to be my favorite; the song Seven Lives from the album SEVEN LIVES (1997) -

I love this song because it reminds me of who I am when faced with challenges and reassures me a laughter after the storm. When faced with challenges- I remind myself "I've Got Seven Lives, I am born to be great"- I can't be knockdown

  • Seven Lives

In my journey through the world, over land and over sea
I see different cultures and different people's ways
I was born where the sun never sets and never rises
I was born where the heat is like a second skin
Children crying on the streets, automobiles are making noise
The land is growing dry and weak, spirits dying low
The forefathers are calling me: never tire, never weaken
The pride in me is bursting loose - I'm an African boy.
On the farm my father called me down behind a tree
He said, "Prostrate at my feet and say a few prayers"
Then he told me all the stories of my brave ancestors,
"Look into my eyes son, you were born to be great"
So in the twilight I went home behind my father with a hoe
Listening to the songs of birds, whispers of the night
i was Singing: seven goats, seven beads,
Seven cowries, seven nuts,
Seven lifes that's what I've got, I'm an African boy... -full lyrics

If you are reading this, I will like to say a big thank you for stopping by; and I'll also appreciate if you would make a little space in your music library to listen to this man. I'm confident you are going to enjoy the songs.
