Ulog 30: Boogie Druid!
Hi gang, I’m home!
Well, that was a bit more of a break than I expected, but as soon as I arrived at my dad’s in Wales, I realised that I was actually craving some time away from my computer- away from my screen and being connected all of the time. So I went with it, and let it happen – and thoroughly enjoyed the down-time and the beautiful green surroundings! That photo up there is what you can see right outside dad's back door :)
But boy, I missed you lot! Anyway, I’m back and aim to be back posting every day again now I’ve had my mini-break. Huge apologies if you’ve tagged me or commented over the past week and I’ve not responded. I’ll do my best to catch up over the next few days.
For those of you who know me and a bit of my history, you’ll know that this is the first time I’d returned to my parents’ home since my mum died. That was the last time I was up there, nursing her through to the end, so I was a bit apprehensive about how it was going to be to return. Much to my delight, it was the same madcap, restful, chaotic place it ever was. It was lovely to spend time with my dad, and the sweet presence and reminders of my mum around the house were a blessing.
As last time we were rather tied to the house, this time dad and I went adventuring most days- visiting his permaculture friends on their various plots of land- climbing the mountains to visit some. S & P have built their garden right into the side of the mountain, creating beautiful terraces full of beans and veggies, edible flowers and fruit. They are both also experts at fermented foods, and have inspired my dad to get going on fermenting his own crops as a delicious way to preserve excess food.

Dad has also got into the idea of brewing Kombucha. As most of you probably know this is a fermented drink made from sweetened tea using a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). We tried some kombucha our friend Gina had made, and it was really delicious, so I was quite excited at the idea of dad making his own…

So we boiled and brewed, sweetened and cooled, and let the SCOBY float free… fingers crossed it works!
So yes, there was a lot of gossip and giggles, music (we broke out his guitar and had a lot of fun trying to remember how to play the thing!), eating and dancing. And without much pressing, I got dad to don his druid cloak (yup, my dad’s a druid!) and bop to some trance music. People… I present to you… BOOGIE DRUID!
It was a fabulous visit, but wonderful to be back too. It was an easy 4.5 hour drive home, and after a hefty 12 hour sleep last night, I’ve just about landed.
Looking forward to catching up with you all!

Looks like a lovely place to go and unwind! I can't believe you have a real druid as a father! Too cool!
It's a real wilderness- but yes, you can't help but unwind there.
You're right- he really is cool ;)
Did you have a good holiday?

It was great! First time in the English countryside, lots of really interesting historical places, great walks and the highlight was the Giffords Circus!
oh - welcome home my darling!!!!!! how we missed you!!! :)
I'm SURE the kombucha will come out wonderfully - as long as its kept covered so flies don't come... it works itself out nicely (and super bubbly if you do it right heheehe )
i love your dad!!!!!!! he's a good dancer!!!!!!!!!! hahahahaha
and that is an absolutely gorgeous view from your dad's home (but i'm so glad you're back with US) HEHEHEHE
Thank you lovely Dreemie! I missed you all too, and weaning myself off of my phone and computer for those days was hard work, especially as you lot were having so much fun without me!
We fear we may have killed the Komucha somehow... it has sunk. We'll see ;)
Dad is awesome and is only just discovering his love for dancing like a nutter! It is a beautiful view, you're right. There's a little stream down there and then the slopes behind it are bluebell woods, and absolutely divine in the springtime.

Hey @eveningart W E L C O M E B A C K !
Yes, we missed you,
BUT,
it is so good you had time with your dad, the super dooper cool druid. The best druid I have ever seen. Wait, did I ever see a druid? Or a druid in such a cool black coat?
My first dancing druid experience ever, love it!
Have a great evening!!!!
xx
Hahaha- I'm so glad I was responsible for your first ever dancing druid experience :) The cloak is an amazing garment- really heavy and dad was out and about in the middle of the winter wearing that- and he was always warm!
As you can see... I'm still catching up on my comments, but yay- so good to be back with you all :)

Ohhh I love the cloak and what a wonderful Dad you have!!!! I would love to have such a cool cloak made but unfortunately it is all year round so warm here, to warm for warming clothes :)
it’s always great to take a break from the computer/iPad even to just give your eyes a rest. I just spent 5 days away without mine.
Sorry about your Mom. My dad outlived Mom about 16 yrs and I always loved visiting him. Your dad is great-love that he is a Druid. 😊
Yes- I do feel revived for having cut the ties with my devices for a few days- the constant checking becomes a compulsive habit, doesn't it.
Thank you! Mum died at 60 and dad is only 2 years older, so I hope and pray that it'll be the same for us and he has many years ahead of him. It's always an adventure visiting. E x

I'm glad you had a great visit home, but that dad the druid clip just erased everything else you said from my memory!! If nothing else happenedbut this, it was well worth the visit anyway!!
You officially have the coolest dad!!

Haha- so glad my madcap dad brought a giggle to your day. I know what you mean about the clip just erasing everything... that's me you can hear practically wetting myself in the background, and when I stopped recording, we were both bent over double, laughing so hard!
You're right, I think it's official- I have the coolest dad!
E x
