Yes, as the Bush Administration discovered.
I've never liked the nation-building thing, but that's the way the military used now. That's why I got out when I did. We train guys to kill then tell them don't shoot.
We learned that crap in Vietnam. There are 6 support personnel to every combat soldier. and you supplement the combat troops with support personnel and also put them in harm's way doing their support jobs.
And to top it off, the battlefield today is three dimensional. You can't just look left and right and in front of you. You have to look up and down.

True, to some extent. But I'm not talking about aerial assaults. I'm talking more about urban environments. The guy shooting at you now could be on the third story on another street and around the corner.
What the problem is, is that never before was there no uniforms. you could not separate the bad guys from the civilians. storing weapons cache or firing projectiles using hospitals as cover and other civilians buildings.
That's true. That is a problem. Our guys are adapting very well, though.
