This idea that Ukraine aid is a huge budget item for the US government is absurd.

We have only given 0.33% of our GDP in aid to Ukraine. And a bunch of that is just older military equipment stock that we are replacing. Lithuania has pledged 1.86% of its GDP in aid to Ukraine. Poland has pledged 2.51% of its GDP in support to Ukrainian refugees.

This is more like "should taxpayers ever be forced to give some of their earnings to the US military" as we basically are upgrading our military and regional defense that just so happens to also benefit Ukraine. That may still be "no" for some people, but they should at least understand what is actually happening. And I think there is a colorable argument we are doing this at a bargain compared to the alternative spending.
