Road to find a good mug cake recipe
I want a mug cake!
The mug cake (taken out of the mug)
With the strongest desire to have a mug cake, I took to the trusty BBC good foods website for a recipe and found this one
It looks easy enough and I have all the ingredients so lets get to it!
dry ingredients
I know I could have made it in the mug, but I decided it would be better to use a bowl.
This recipe's ingredient measurements were all using tablespoons, or teaspoons, so I really felt it wasn't correct at times. The picture above is of the cocoa powder, caster sugar and self-raising flour in a bowl. Easy enough.
After mixing together, I added the one egg, which still left the mixture looking a bit on the dry side after mixing.
Luckily, the next step was to add and mix the rest of the wet ingredients (milk, oil, and vanilla essence).
wet mixture with added chocolate pieces!
The recipe mentions you can add chocolate chips, I only had a bar so I just chopped that up and added it in!
Finally, I put the mixture all into the largest mug I had.
Mixture in the mug
After putting it into the microwave for the described 1 minute 20, I felt like it was still very wet and raw. Not wanting to give myself any risk of food poisoning, I put it in for another 30 seconds... I did this quite a few times and lost count. Not sure why it took so much longer as my microwave is not a low Wattage as far as I know?
In the end, I found that although the cake was delicious, it was a bit dense for my liking.. Maybe I overdid it haha.
slightly raw
Oh well, that's all for today! Thanks!
