Violent Crime On Rise In UK: Government Turns To Taxes To Help

in #uk5 years ago

Violent crime is on the rise in the UK, more than 20 people this year have already lost their lives from being stabbed; knife attacks on teenagers have increased more than 90 percent in 5 years.

And the “crisis” has prompted an increasing call for the government to hurry up and do something about it.

The police have suggested that the increase in violence is because they don't have enough funding, a claim which the British PM has received backlash for rejecting.

The police have also warned that the violence will only continue to worsen unless the government steps in to do something about it.

They want the government to initiate an “effective strategy” to counter the problem but they maintain that they just don't have the funds to do much more than they currently are. Multiple media reports are suggesting that what they're now facing in the UK is a "knife crime epidemic" and they fear that the streets aren't safe any longer.

UK authorities have already called for a further crackdown on knives; for an extension of knife control to address the problem.

"No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife,... Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law." - London Mayor, Sadiq Khan

About that funding...

Several months ago, the police in the UK and Wales had received one of the biggest funding increases since 2010 but they still said it wasn't enough.

There have also been reports that have come out about the police misusing funds, such as the Metropolitan Police allegedly spending millions on luxury flights in only 3 years.

They government has billions that it was willing to spend on war overseas in places like Afghanistan and Iraq, but here at home the police are left begging for more funding.

The government turns to taxes to help...

Where else are they going to get the funds from but the people and that's exactly where they've turned.

The government wants the public to pay extra now for the crimes and they've called for a nationwide increase in council tax to address the issue, though critics say that this isn't a reasonable long-term fix. Especially if you aren't going to take an honest look at how the funding up until now has been dispersed; seek to address any financial mismanagement issues than rush to pour more into the pit.

Because of the knife "chaos" in the UK, the government has recently been able to expand police authority for stop-and-search powers and initiate a ban on home deliveries of knives, among other restrictions. But they knife crime continues.

Gotta love all the "epidemics" going on. What are we gonna say when the black plague comes back? Everyone's freaking out about this epidemic and that epidemic; it makes me wonder how we're gonna react when an actual epidemic arrives. Hopefully something more than spouting off fear mongering bullshit

my thoughts exactly, only 20 ppl for an epidemic 😂

It reminds me of reports I would see on news stations about that year's swine flu or some other contagion. They would go on about how there's a record number of deaths in the U.S. but the number would always be something tiny like a few thousand. Don't get me wrong that's sad those people died, but we live in a country of over 300,000,000 people. The chance of someone dying from the flu is so infinitesimally tiny it's barely worth mentioning. We seriously need to raise a generation that aren't a bunch of melodramatic pansies.

They'd have a fit if they came here. No knife laws. Comparatively few gun laws. No state income tax. Low violent crime rate.

few laws? sounds like Somalia😂😉

LOL! Oh no. We got plenty of laws. Just not compared to other states in the US. "Comparatively" was a key word in that sentence.

they can't just allow people to voluntarily organize themselves,.. that's just crazy talk 😂

I know right! God forbid...

They think the market can handle 90% of everything but it couldn't POSSIBLY handle that last 10%....lol

Funds budgeted are never enough until you have personally pay the tab... Oh crime is up? Throw money at it! Class rooms are overpopulated? Money! Traffic jams are severe? Money!

No one stops to ask can we afford the desired upgrades?

If you or me needed a new furnace, desired a new vehicle and wanted to upgrade our floors, we would first ask, can we afford any of this.

We are therefore unusual, as compared to a Western gov't.

Promise everyone, everything, and just borrow from future prosperity to pay for it. Cause that can never fail... right?

Hi doitvoluntarily, I am cynical with reasons why taxes are increased at the drop of a hat. The general populace are already over taxed and I never see any positive good that comes of it. Maybe the police need to straighten up their system in the UK and get more efficient. I am sorry to hear that crime is rising.

It's the government that cause this. People in the UK are struggling and things are far too expensive even with a decent wage I:only just mange to live comfortably. When people are cornered they fight their way out! Government is the problem no about of reducing the taxes will help as prices will still rise from taxes elsewhere. We need freedom from the restrictions 💯🐒
