Oyster Mushrooms

This week am Passing through the steps in growing oyster

I want to begin with listing the requirements needed to grow Mushrooms and their importance that's generally the topic to explore today.

#1. (substrate) cotton husks.

#2. Spawn (Mushrooms seeds).

#3. Clear Water.

#4. Maize bran (Rice bran).

#5. Lime (hydrated calcium lime).

#6. Tarpaulin.

#7. Metallic drum.

#8. Dark room (Structure).

Requirement One

#Substrate (Cotton husks) The soil for Mushrooms.
Well!! There are lots of substrates that can be used to make Mushrooms like Sugarcane bagasse, chopped rice straw, wheat straw, coffee husks and a variety of them used worldwide substrate is used as a medium to grow Mushrooms.

Requirement Two

#Spawn (Mushrooms seeds) these are mixed with Substrate to produce mushrooms.

Requirements Three

#Clean water, now not every water does wonders examples of soapy, Dirty will instead spoil the fun so clean water is just fine for the process, the importance of water is to help in germination just like any plant needs water as a basic need to grow.

Requirement Four

#Maize bran or #Rice bran. Just like chicken droppings act as manure (Organic fertilizer) in gardens. In short they boost proper growth of healthy Mushrooms.

Requirements Five

#Lime,
Mycelium of fungi (mushroom) obtain nutrients from substrate at specific level of pH
Lime is used in cultivation of mushroom to enhance the pH of substrate. Rapid mycelium growth of mushroom takes place at pH 6.4 - 7.8

Requirement Six

#Tarpaulin, well this is optional for starters as they can improvise with Sacks or other alternatives but inevitable as the business progresses it's used to cover the substrate properly to attain better fermentation of the substrate.

Requirement Seven

#Metallic drum, For those that use the steaming method a Metallic drum is a mandate, Now substrates are Normally infested with Pests/ pathogens while in factories, during transportation and also stores. The main purpose of a metallic drum is to help in the steaming process so as to minimize the chances of contamination subsequent to inoculation.

Well this is a quick pass through of the Requirements needed to grow Mushrooms plus their particular importance.

Requirement Eight

#Dark Room, Mushrooms don't need sunlight to process their own food just like Green plants do (Photosynthesis), One of the priorities that Mushrooms want is Moisture however sunlight comes along with heat which dries out the Room (Environment) causing unfavourable conditions for them to grow properly that's dry out as most customers find this problem.

On addition Mushrooms are sensitive to light.
