Ubuntu Linux Development History

in #ubuntu4 years ago

Ubuntu is a Linux operating system launched in 2004. This operating system is a derivative of another Linux operating system, Debian, which has been used for server computers.

Ubuntu itself is an operating system based on Debian Linux which was created with the following objectives:

  • Always free or there will be no license fee.
  • Ready to use in stable conditions with a fixed launch cycle, which is every 6 months.
  • The software application must be able to be used in the respective local language and for people with physical disabilities.
  • Users have the freedom to acquire, modify, and distribute the software according to what they need without any hindrance.
  • Principled on the development of open code software ( open source ).

Ubuntu is supported by a company called Canonical, Ltd. (www.canonical.com) led by Mark Shuttleworth. The company itself aims to assist in the development, distribution and promotion of open source software products , as well as to provide tools and support for open source communities . The company is headquartered in Europe with branches in North America, South America and Australia. The word Ubuntu itself is an African word which means humanity for others or I am me because we are all .

Some of the versions of Ubuntu that have been and will be released are:

  • Warty Warthdog (version 4.10)
  • Hoary Hedgehog (version 5.04)
  • Breezy Badger (version 5.10)
  • Drapper Drake (version 6.06)
  • Edgy Eft (version 6.06)
  • Feisty Fawn (version 7.04)
  • Gutsy Gibbon (version 7.10)
  • and so on until the current last version

Since it was first released, Ubuntu has received tremendous response from Linux users because of its stability. Notebook users especially benefit the most because it tends to be "lighter" and more stable when using Ubuntu compared to other Linux operating systems. Desktop users also benefit from the convenience and ease of use.
