Ubuntu 18.04 came out! What's new?
Ubuntu 18.04 - another version with long support finally came out. I admit that I could not wait. I like to use Ubuntu in the desktop version for my personal computers and I praise him. What has changed this time?
Bionic Beaver, the next version of Ubuntu is a special version of this system, because it has extended (so-called Long Time Support - LTS) support. It has support until 2023, that is, more than average, we have personal computers in offices or even from more interested users.
Well, finally, Canonical went to get his head right and he forgot about his Unity (in my opinion, a terribly impractical overlay). There were some springs, but even they were smart. It is known - it is a slightly modified version, but it is practical after small changes (in my case only the appearance). Modern and practical style, plus memory leaks, which is a known error in this version of Gnome (i.e. 3.28).
I like Ubuntu, among others through great hardware support. Normally in the distro we have version 4.15 of the Linux kernel, however, it supports a well-integrated GPU from AMD (Radeon VEGA bows), as well as from the Intel stable (ie Kaby Lake G systems). Here, the problem was often sound, eg via HDMI. Plus, rich users with expensive Intel processors will enjoy the full support of AVX-512 (processor instructions like that, break away). And finally, abandoning the 32-bit version of the system. Well, people...
Here, the Open Source does its job. This time we have systemd v.237, server X.org 1.19.6, mesa 18.0, glibc 2.27, gcc 8.0. And preinstalled home-use programs like LibreOffice? It is the most! Well, the famous Meltdown & Specter - supposedly secured.
Who has Ubuntu already (I was 17.10) I used the following commands (because something did not work as it should):
sudo apt install update-manager-core
sudo do-release-upgrades
sudo do-release-upgrade -d
