RE: Does Vote Buying Affect @steem-ua Upvote Weight?
I can't get excited about ua, because it's not open source. If a person has a question such as your post, we should be able to dig into the code and find the answer.
Just say no to centralized "reputation" type systems.

Yeah you're not the first person who's mentioned that and I think it's a very fair point to make. I really like the concept of it, but being able to look at the source code seems like a must in order for this to get full community approval.
I think it has to be open source otherwise it is meaningless. If it is hidden, it could be anything and could be changed at any time if the good ol boy network needs to tweak it to keep their group at the top.
My first red flag was all the top 20 witness being at the top of ua. Sounded to me like the good ol boy network thinking they needed to have the top reputation. Making the most money from the platform just wasn't good enough for them...

It definitely should be open source, and I have my doubts about the @steem-ua project. But I don't agree that the top 20 witnesses making a lot of STEEM is a bad thing. Whoever does the most work towards developing the platform/blockchain should get paid the most.
While some of the top witnesses may be a bit "lazy," they usually work several hours a day on STEEM-related tasks, if not a full work day, and receive much less than a normal salary to do so.
I wasn't complaining about them making a lot of steem. I've just read a lot of posts implying they are somewhat of a good ol boy network. Some put there by questionable means. All kinds of theories and such about the top 20...
My concern is that they have setup ua so the top witnesses are also tops on ua. That just seems like a red flag to me.
