Castlevania Season 2 Review - Vampires, Belmonts and Forgekeepers
The first season of Castlevania released last year with only a handful of episodes, which followed Trevor Belmont; a washed up drunk who is the last of the vampire slaying line of Belmonts. Season two of Castlevania picks up right after the first season with Trevor, Alucard and Sypha as they continue their journey to put an end to Dracula and his army that want to bring an end to humanity.
The villain's in Season 2 receive ample screentime and exposition as we follow Dracula's followers; Godbrand, Carmilla, Hector and Isaac. Each offering their own insights into how things used to be as a part of Dracula's army and their own lives. One of my favorite character additions to this season was Isaac who was an orphan that was taken in by a corrupt follower of the church.
With what I presume is a larger budget, the action has been amped up and the quality of the animation has improved. You're treated to a well choreographed fight sequence almost every episode. Much like the first season, I was surprised at how much wit and humor went into the writing for the show. The Belmont troupe squabble and bicker, but the chemistry between the three of them is great and it shines through the writing.
Overall, I had a great time with the second season of Castlevania and enjoyed it more than the original. Everything was expanded upon in an easy to follow way, with plenty of loose ends that will lead to season 3 of the show.
I haven't written in a long time, and I doubt anyone will actually read this mini-review, but I've had this review half-written for about 6 months and I plan on writing a bit more now that I have the time to again. If you're reading this, thanks!
