Hey steemians, today im gonna show you how to put some weathering on your Mecha or Gundam model kits, well some people prefer just having a dull color on their model kits, especially mecha or robot model kits, well the purpose of this weathering is not just to make it dirty, but to make the model kit a lil bit cooler.

After assembling, painting, putting on decals and applying the topcoat to your model kit, there is still another step you can do to further improve the overall look and realism of your kit, and yes that's the "weathering" that im talking about.

Well its up to the kit if it need a lot of weathering, if the model kit is a ground type mecha, it really needs a lot of weathering, but it depends in yours also if you want to put a lot.

Okay with out further redo, lets get started
So for the materials are:

  1. Black oil pastel
  2. A paint brush, make sure that the bristles of the brush are soft and big
  3. A sandpaper or a file, make sure it doesnt have a very rough grit, about 200 grit (sorry i forgot to take a pic)

Okay now, we will be focusing on the edges of the piece. So my main model is the Gundam Barbatos 6th Form, it does have a little bit of weathering but i decided to put more.

Okay so first get the piece you wanted to put some weather. So right i choose this piece which is its feet.

So first get your file or sandpaper and start sanding the edges, this is because the color doesn't hold on the edges, unless if you sand it, make sure not to put pressure when sanding.

Then get our oil pastel and start to put some on the edges that you have sanded.

Then get your paint brush and start to brush the oil pastel to make it spread and makes the color of the edges a little bit light, oh one more thing dont use wet brushes just use a dry one.

So heres the finished piece.

And this one is on the knee part of my model kit, were i use the same process as what we did.

And heres the over all look of my Model Kit(sorry if the pic is not to bright, cause i captured this tonight and my phone camera only gets nice shots in morning)
