How to Connect a Turntable to a PC?
The turntable is a circular spinning plate that is used to support a record while it is being played. Virtually any turntable can be connected to your computer, though if you want a standard record player, you must first pre-amplify the signal. When you use a turntable that is part of a stereo stack, it already has a preamplifier.
If you're using a standalone turntable, you'll most likely need to purchase a preamplifier, also known as a receiver. Several modern turntables include a Universal Serial Bus connector, which eliminates the need for a separate preamp and allows you to plug the turntable directly into your computer.
To record from a turntable to a computer, connect the audio output connection on the player to any of the audio input connections on your PC. A preamplifier is always required before connecting your turntable to any computer to ensure adequate volume. This article will teach you how to connect a turntable to a computer.
For Standard Turntable
To begin, insert the connector at the end of an RCA stereo cable into the turntable's jack.
Then connect the connectors on the other end of the stereo cable to the preamp's input jacks. Put the RCA connectors on one end of the adapter cable into the output jacks of your preamp.
The mini stereo phone plug should then be plugged into the computer's line-level input jack. It is identified as light blue jack.
For USB Turntable
A USB turntable differs from traditional turntables in that it is designed to work with computers. As a result, most USB models include programs for recording or transferring vinyl to data files. The majority of the software packages provided include Audacity, a free and open-source editing and recording program. Also included are the MixMeister's EZ Vinyl/Audio Converter, the pyro Audio Creator OEM, and Cakewalk's pyro Audio Creator LE. Because it works equally well on Mac and Windows PCs, Audacity is used as an example below.
To begin, download and install the USB turntable software from the manufacturer's website onto your PC.
• Then you must connect your USB turntable to power.
• Then plug your turntable's USB connector into a USB port on your computer.
• You must now launch the Audacity software. To do so, go to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
• Tap the Devices button to see a list of recording and playback devices.
• Then select Device from the pull-down menu. It is in the Recording category.
• Finally, you need to select "Microsoft Sound Mapper" or the USB driver that is provided by the turntable maker.
