What's going on in Venezuala???
If you're like me, the situation in Venezuala is a bit confusing with all the contradictions in news stories. I have been following the situation in Venezaula for a few years now with great concern yet I wasn't exactly sure what parts of the situation were true.
With recent events in the election of an interim President by the Venezualians, I was even more confused by what this meant and why the mention of a 'coup' has been circulating the web.
I happened to find @hlezama 's post: Ulog #041 | 1/23 from Cumaná which explained so much as he is living the experience there in Venezuala real time.
If you would like to learn more or have questions of your own, I highly recommend heading over to his post and asking him personally. He is being very open and engaging with everyone that wants to learn more. And I think we should learn all that we can about this situation as it is a major humanitarian crisis.
So, I highly recommend also being the voice for these people as it will bring more awareness of the truth and hopefully support the people in their fight to regain some semblance of dignity and freedom from the oppression they are living under.
@hlezama confirmed to me the accuracy of this video (5min) - Easy to understand explanation without bias
@hlezama 's words:
Can't blame you for not knowing who to trust. We can't figure that out ourselves. It does not help that we have the most trecherous politicians on both sides and that many venezuelans have become experts in creating all kinds of fake news and spreading them in the social networks.
It is very frustrating.
Yesterday, my brother, who is in Perú, asked me how things were here because he had received information that affirmed that the gringoes would invade today. It is noon and they have not invaded yet :)
You have Quevedo, the current president of PDVSA (our oil company) affirming that they increased the production of oil. Most international organizations have stated the opposite, even OPEC, the entity that rules our oil production and exports have listed us as having reduced our production (which has aggravated our situation). Thus, it is easy to decided who to believe in cases like those.
You only have to watch (thank good ness the videos are there for all to see) the statements of minsiters and other government officials to see the level of shamelessness they exhibit. The ministers of Health (we have had more than a 12 in the last 6 years) have repeatedly denied the health crisis. Our health system, according to them is the best. But it is enough to peer into any ER in any hospital in the country and you'll see they are lying. If they can lie about something so grave, which has traslated in the untiely death of hundreds of children, women and elderly people, the sky is the limit to what they can fabricate.

I am thoroughly confused too. So thank you for the clarification. What a scary situation for the people. Greed and power is the basis of this treachery of course. So despicable. So horrible to watch.
Yes, greed and power do corrupt. I was surprised to learn that Venezuala is sitting on the largest oil and gas field - that explains a lot. Syria was sitting on top of large oil fields, too (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genie_Energy). It seems to me, resource rich countries are especially at risk due to global interests. Sadly, human life is not considered in that equation.
Yes, horrible.
Thanks @youhavewings for sharing this. I have to say I have been ignorant of the situation until very recently. It is an appalling situation and I am now considering what I can do (in my very small way) to help.
I think the only thing we can do right now is educate ourselves on the truth of what is happening and support the people by sharing the truth and giving them a voice. Hopefully what unfolds will lead to a less oppressive and open system where we can offer other help that is needed.
