Just like Newton's Third Law, for every Trump statement there's and equal and opposite Trump statement in the past. As such, the best way to correct Trump is to quote Trump to himself:

Trump's response to the question: Who's responsible if there's a government shutdown?

Trump 2013 - "If you’re saying who gets fired, it always has to be the top. Problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. The president's the leader, and he's gotta get everybody in a room and he's gotta lead."

Trump 2018 - "We'll see what happens, it's up to the Democrats."
