Trump presents his national security strategy
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump will present a new strategy for US national security on Monday, based on the policy of "America First," two senior US officials said on Saturday.
Trump praised Chinese President Xi Jinping, while also demanding that Beijing step up pressure on North Korea over its nuclear program, and also demanded that it change its trade practices to be more suitable for the United States.
The two officials, who asked not to be named, said Trump's national security strategy in his speech should not be seen as an attempt to contain China, but rather that it provides a closer look at the challenges posed by Beijing.
One said the strategy, which is still being worked out, may also change the declaration by former Democratic President Barack Obama in September 2016 that climate change poses a threat to security.
