사원은 아유타야 시대 건축이지만 발원자는 알려지지 않았다. 왓 얀나와는 Wat Khok Khwai(버팔로 사원), 라마 1세는 절의 이름을 Wat Khok Krabue(버팔로 사원)로 개명하고 왕실사원으로 지정했다. 중국 정크선 모양의 탑이 라마3세 때 건설되었다. 이 때부터 왓 얀나와(배모양 절)란 이름으로 불리기 시작했다. 라마3세의 상이 조성되어 있으며 그 아래에는 한국에서 제작된 종이 있다. 유일하며 세계적인 한국의 종 제작 전문 성종사에서 만들어진 것이다.
