Hello,

I don't know if you are still active on steemit , but if you are, I'm desperately in need of your help.

I am a 34 year old guy from France, and I recently felt anxiety about the consequences on life on a daily basis if we take seriously what both philosophy of mind and neuroscience tells us about the human condition.

But even if I have a degree in philosophy, I surmised that I wasn't up to date on exactly what was going on in the field and so decided to dig into it a little bit deeper, because my experience has been that with a better understanding of what one is talking about comes relief about previous fears.

But this time, it was the opposite, the more I read about it the more I found the consequences catastrophic . Right now I'm in a state of shock and panic, and don't really know how to get on with my life with the knowledge that there's no free will.

I have the feeling that everything that makes life worth living depends at some level on agentivity, i.e. the possibility of seeing oneself and the others as the source of their beliefs and able to make choices. I mean from building a life in tune with values you care about to simple human relationships, everything crumbles without it. At least it's how I see things right now and I guess there's the compatibilism we all know about but here's another one : the idea that life can be enjoyed and lived happily without free will.

I would love to hear about that kind of compatibilism, because right now, I feel terrible and lost.

Thanks for any reply !

David.
