Chakma Community
Today, I am going to introduce you to the largest tribal community of Bangladesh. It will be long post. So the total story will be divided into several parts. Today I am with the first part.
Chakma community is the largest among the small ethnic groups of Bangladesh. They called them 'Changma'. People of different tribal ethnic groups called them in different names. The Chakma community lives in the south eastern region of Bangladesh or in three Hill Districts namely Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari districts. The Chakma community has many Guthi or tribes and Gazha or group. This number may be 32. Chakma society patriarchal society. According to previous tradition, pregnant women had to give birth to their husbands house or to the family of their husbands house. Now there are no rules. In the Chakma community, a new program called 'Kojai Water Lana' was organized in a week after the navel (Nayya) of the newly born baby was thrown. In this, it is called khoji (purified) water, and the newborn baby's hair was washed and purified. In Kona water luna ceremony, closely respected people of the community are being invited to celebrate the program.
While the people of Chakma minor ethnic groups are basically Buddhist, there is still faith in nature's ghosts, ghosts, gods and so on. The Chakma community performs Kothin chibor dan, Maghi Purnima, Baishakhi Purnima, Madhu Purnima, Funus Urano etc. in a very festive mode. All the tribes including Chakma have traditional social, administrative and judicial system. The people of Chakma minor ethnic group called the head of their circles as the king. The king works like uphold the tradition, costumes, policy, land, revenue management, joining the Hill District Council and recruiting the headman and so on. In the regional and national politics, Chakmas have played a leadership role in the British or Pakistan periods.
