Mysterious Drone Clusters Spark Emergency Calls in New Jersey
The recurring sight of mysterious drone clusters over New Jersey and nearby regions has stirred public anxiety and political urgency. Lawmakers are now calling for immediate action, including a "limited state of emergency", as confusion and concern over the unexplained phenomena deepen.
New Jersey State Senator Jon Bramnick has urged a temporary ban on drones until authorities provide clarity about the sightings. "We need answers for public peace of mind," Bramnick said, echoing growing frustration among local leaders.
The issue escalated after over 3,000 reports flooded an FBI tip line within a week. Yet, during a House subcommittee hearing on counter-terrorism, FBI investigator Robert Wheeler admitted the agency remains baffled by the mysterious activity. “We don’t know the intent or origin of these drones, and that’s concerning,” Wheeler told Congress.
Reports indicate drone activity near sensitive infrastructure, including rail stations and police facilities, as well as the Bedminster golf course owned by President-elect Donald Trump. Recent sightings also include locations in New York City and Philadelphia suburbs, intensifying worries about potential security risks.
Local mayors in 21 towns across New Jersey have urged Governor Phil Murphy to take statewide action. Murphy has coordinated discussions with federal agencies but assured the public that no immediate threats have been identified.
Speculation over the drones’ origins has ranged from regular aircraft misidentified on social media to outlandish claims of foreign espionage. Addressing the latter, Pentagon officials dismissed theories of an "Iranian mothership" deploying drones along the U.S. coast. "There is no evidence of foreign involvement," said Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh.
With sightings continuing to multiply, local, state, and federal authorities are working to resolve the mystery and alleviate public concern.
