Establishing a Pecan Nut tree orchard. Part 11 - Navaho in front

in #trees6 years ago (edited)

After planting the transplanted plants begins the long wait...

Long cold and then later hot days of absolutely nothing. A little bit of watering and a whole lot of waiting.

The trees came with buds on them, many of which were damaged during planting so its been really hard to tell if anything is going on down there under the ground and if the transplants have been successful.

Just these dry looking stalks standing in the bare ground, with an occasional bird using it as a hunting perch.

But...

Last week the first buds began to become active.

We planted three varieties so far and out of 300 trees about 20 have started to show signs of activity. These are all in the lines where the Navaho variety have been planted. These must be the early risers of the season and its wonderful to finally see some activity and signs that our plantings are a success.

Apparently it will be a long wait to see if they give the sowings but in any way the rewards are the best at the end of all that effort
