I Found Treasures
I have been helping my mom pack up our childhood home. As you can imagine my emotions are all over the place. This is the place I grew up, took my first steps, became the woman I am today. It is so bittersweet because this is the place my dad took his last breath and this is the only home my family has ever lived in.
This is my old stomping grounds and I fear for when it will no longer be mine. I know this is best for everyone. The house is way too big for just my mom and it's too hard to keep up with repairs. Everyday I find a new treasure that reminds me of my childhood. This little treasure is a painting of my dad, his older brother, and younger sister that my grandfather painted.
My dad enjoyed to read and instilled the love of reading in me. One of the many favorite books we read together when I was young was Alice in Wonderland. This is treasure number two.
My dad wrote in his journal every single day. Some days he would write the basics like the weather and his meals but some days he would write detailed accounts of the many events that made up his life. One magical treasure I found is his journal from the year I was born. I finally know what time I was born and the many feelings and events that happened to him surrounding my birth.
I am so blessed that I was born into my family and I am so grateful for my parents for providing me with an amazing home. I will always hold on to the amazing memories and enjoy my many treasures.
