Travel Tip: Nechranice Dam, one of the largest and most beautiful dams in the Czech Republic

Dear Steemit friends and followers,

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.

Today, I would like to show you another great place for a summer vacation, the popular Nechranice Dam.

Located between the towns of Kadan and Chomutov in the northern part of the Czech Republic, the Nechranice Dam is a vast water reservoir that was completed in 1968.

With a total area of 1,338 ha, it is the fifth largest dam in the country. Built on the Ohre River, the dam was originally meant to serve as the main source of water for the nearby Tusimice Power Station but it has been mainly used for recreation in the past years.

There is the Vikletice Tourist Resort in the southern part of the dam where visitors can choose from seven camp facilities, offering anything from bungalows and wooden bunks to tents and caravans.

The Nechranice Dam provides excellent conditions for a number of water sports and outdoor activities including windsurfing, yachting, fishing, canoeing etc. The natural surroundings of the dam also has a lot to offer - there is a protected natural area that serves as a bird sanctuary and hiking enthusiasts will surely appreciate the great hiking trails found in the nearby Doupov Mountains.

The Czech countryside is possibly some of the most beautiful in Europe. I will definitely visit this beautiful country one day.

We can travel anywhere through the photos, excellent landscape by the way!

We sure can nowadays, the entire world:)....

Nechranice dam also seems to be the longest bulk embankment dam in the Central Europe (More than 3km). The part of the reservoir and surrounding area has been declared as a part of the Natura 2000 Network
(Natura 2000 is the largest network of protected areas in the world).

Although I didn't look into the recreational sports activity in the area but found that it has a very diversified population of migration and non-migrational birds. A beautiful region to be sure.

Very wonderful location. Up for this share with us! Now I need a cool boat, to swim around and do some fishing there. ✌️

Yep, that sounds just great.... would be happy to join....

Wow what a pleasant place for outing! The scenery is so beautiful and fantastic. With that much area one can surely have many activities as you mentioned.

It is a pity for my country to not have much dams here. Our politicians are not sincere with their duties and with the mandate given to them. You are lucky to have such great places and good thing is your government is taking great care such places!

The scenery in the photo is looking like a fantasy place. Well i like the name of the dam "Nechranice Dam". Is there any significant meaning of this name or is it just a name.I am just curious to know. A movie can be made on this name.

Not too sure to be honest.... I guess though....

Another great share! Thank you Tomas and Petr. So like mentioned months ago, Summer in Europe, and I decided to spend a good chunk of it your city! Prague!
