Travel Tip: Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, magnificent piece of neo-Gothic architecture
Dear Steemit friends and followers,
Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
Today, I will take you to one of the most impressive churches in Prague, the monumental Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul.

Located at the Vysehrad Fortress above the right bank of the River Vltava, the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul is a large neo-Gothic church built in the late 11th century by the Czech king Vratislav II.
The basilica was originally built in the Romanesque architectural style but it was badly damaged by fire in 1249 and it was rebuilt several times after that. The current neo-Gothic appearance of the church dates back to the 1880s when it was renovated by Josef Mocker.
Right next to this majestic church, there is the Vysehrad Cemetery where many prominent Czech artists, politicians, sportsmen, scientists and other important figures are buried.

Since the whole Vysehrad complex is located on a large promontory above the Vltava River, the place also offers several great look-out spots with breathtaking panoramic views of Prague.

oh I like... thanks for sharing
@czechglobalshost, I was happy to visit Prague few months ago. As I have traveled a lot across Europe, never managed to reach this splendid city, but to be honest the main reason was that I was thinking and convincing myself: ufff everybody visits Prague, why I should do the same...
But I was totally wrong. I fell in love with the city, it is for now one of my favorites in the World. Next week will post my pics from Prague!
Oh great, very happy to hear that. Check out my daily challenge where your fellow Steemians share their personal images from Prague and other locations within the Czech Republic for a decent upvote from me.
Seems most architectural design in ancient times is better than the present. That church is beautiful and on a site close to the river where one can have the perfect site viewing
Not only that but also the fact that our ancestors were able to build all this beauty without any advance technology. It's just hard to believe or imagine.
Just so hard to believe. We have actually stopped thinking and robot is doing our jobs for us. If you want to build a house today, you pay an architect, house planner, surveyor, designer and an engineer. But in those ancient times, this is an idea of one man thinking put into reality. You can imagine the kind of building materials used as it still stand strong till this day. Czech is really a nice place. I have a wish to be there. Thanks for bringing out the beauty of Czech @czechglobalshost
Adorable church view...
Thats why we need to travel to different countries and learn their culture, traditions, food etc etc...it will make us a better person and know their differences, it would help us appreciate it....travelling is like opening up a book, the more pages your turn the better rather than only one page!!!!!!enjoy!!^_^
Oh yeah, absolutely agreed. I try to live by that rule as much and as often I can. Have a great day. Tomas

neo-Gothic architecture is an amazing architectural style however hopefully previous architecture style Romanesque architectural style with semi circular arches will also be the master piece. just seems to be a fairy tale place made of gold. amazing place and the ambiance of river and other site seems to be perfect place for picnic. Thanks for sharing @czechglobalhosts.
