Seven levels of waterfall in Nganjuk, East Java.

in #traveling6 years ago (edited)

In Nganjuk Regency, East Java, there is a waterfall tourist attraction called Sedudo. The location is on the northern slope of Mount Wilis, in the Ngliman Village area, Sawahan District. Who would have thought, around the Sedudo Waterfall, there were many other waterfalls that were still 'virgin', and had not been opened to the public. In the depths of the dense forest above, there are multilevel waterfalls sourced from the Mount Wilis spring. The number is mentioned to seven levels. Sedudo Waterfall itself, which has a height of 105 meters and is located at an altitude of 1,484 above sea level, turns out its position is at the lowest level.

To go to level 2 and so on until the 7th level, visitors must drain their energy to climb through the thick forest, without any asphalt roads like the road to Sedudo. Apart from the condition of the tracks being dangerous because of many steep cliffs and wild animals, some local people still believe that the six six-level waterfalls above Sedudo are forbidden and haunted areas, so they don't dare to approach.

"The trip, like climbing to the top of Wilis, can take days," said Aries Trio Effendi, 40, a Nganjuk Tourism activist, quoted from matakamera.net.
According to Aries, the attractions of Sedudo waterfalls and other waterfalls on Mount Wilis are not only beautiful, but also have a long history. Since the time of the Majapahit Kingdom, the waterfall has often been used to wash the king's weapons and statues in the Prana Prasthista ceremony, and is still regularly held by the Nganjuk Regional Government every month.
Specially, it was once said that the famous Mahapatih from Majapahit, Gajah Mada, often used the location of multilevel waterfalls in the Wilis forest for physical training and military training of his soldiers, especially the elite Majapahit forces called Bhayangkara. The soldier of choice is required to be able to conquer difficult and dangerous terrain, at each level of the waterfall, from the lowest to the highest. "Based on hereditary stories circulating in the community around here," he said.

"One of the monitoring points that can be used to see the entire waterfall, which is called Aries, can pass the route to Gunung Wilis through Gemarang Subdistrict, Madiun Regency. While from the Nganjuk side, some of the levels of the waterfall can be seen from the point of Watu Lawang, Sawahan, which can be reached via the Cemoro Kandang line, or the car park to Sedudo. The journey to the monitoring point of Watu Lawang can be reached by walking about 1 kilometer along the path.
